Why don't they allow you to publish your email address on social networking sites?

such as Yahoo Personals, Match.com or other online dating websites ??

Why don't they allow you to publish your email address on social networking sites?
Partly so you don't get solicited and mostly because you can give out your e-mail to a bunch of people and never pay their site. It's a way of keeping them self in business and not having a reliability problem.
Reply:I think it's a combination of both of the above answers actually. They need the money to help provide the service-keep the biz running basically. Also, it's a very real possibility that not everyone at their site is kosher-perhaps they are a serial killer or serial rapist or another type of crazy sicko-psycho. They need to be able to protect themselves from the people using their site suing them for getting them in touch with a wack job.

So in other words-yeah-it does suck that you can't just post a thing for people to contact you elsewhere-but it makes total biz sense.
Reply:For your protection I guess.Seems to me if you wanna give your email addy away you can.

But remember...most yahoo ids are the email addy...so....hint to that...or instant messenger. That is how you found me :P
Reply:They are protecting you from your own foolishness. There are plenty of weirdos out there. You gotta be cautious and proceed with caution. Giving out your personal contact info is neither.
