Yes you need to set up a home server which contains mail server. Free setup would mean looking at linux as your operating system and sendmail or posfix as your mail server, which dovecot, spamassain and clamav. These a world class solutions and are free open source solutions.

However if you have to ask this question you do not yet have the where withall to be able to provide anybody with a reliable service. I have my own webserver running and I use for myself and my family. I wouldn't consider trying to sell this service as a home broadband connection doesn't provide either the bandwith or the reliability to be able to give anyone paying for a service one which they feel they deserve for their money.

As for the domain - well I am afraid that's where you come unstuck if you want zero cost. They all cost money. Once you have the domain you can issue whatever subdomains you like.
Reply:Well, if you have your own website, and you are with an FTP (File Transfer Protocol) server, sometimes they give you 10 emails with your account. So whatever your website domain name is, (i.e. www.janedoe.com) you have ten emails that go along with that (i.e. yourname@janedoe.com). I am with an FTP server called Vdeck. Go to htto://www.vdeck.com and they will have more info about it there...
Reply:Absolutely not. You would need your own server to handle the volume and very expensive software. Forget it.
